Counselling Approach

I seek to provide a safe space - inviting you to share your reality at your own pace. Together, we aim to come to greater understanding and insight into whatever you're facing, and collaboratively work towards your goals of change or improvement. I endeavor to provide a feedback-informed approach, whereby your honest feedback about what works and what doesn't in our time together will allow me to better support you.

Hello there! If you're reading this, I'll like to say: It's already a pleasure!

I grew up here in Alor Setar but university and work brought me to Klang Valley for 15 years, before bringing me back last year. I joined the workforce in 2012, working in the corporate sector for over five years and subsequently the start-up & social sector for over three years. I gained valuable exposure to human resources and mental health services in the latter, while pursuing a passion in voluntary community involvement since 2017.

Like many, my job was affected by the Covid pandemic in 2020. However, I realised I had a new opportunity and took the pivotal step of getting professionally trained in counselling—an interest I've carried since 2014—thus beginning my formal journey in this helping profession.

As psychologist Sophie Lazarsfeld says:

In counselling, people "acquire the courage to be imperfect".

As an engineer by training, I've always been intrigued by how things work, wanting to "look under the hood" and check when things aren't functioning at an optimal level. There can be a variety of factors involved—inner workings, complex mechanisms, user workflows, environmental factors—and they are unique to every situation.

In the same way, I've always been fascinated with life—people, culture, experiences—and all that it brings. The reality is: life is a journey of hills and valleys. Sometimes we go up, sometimes we go down. Sometimes it's easier, sometimes it's harder. Feeling stuck, or falling down, or wanting to take a break every now and then is literally a rite of passage. If you're feeling any of the above, you're not alone, and I've been there too. And guess what? You will figure it out and you will grow from it.

While you may not feel so at times, it is my belief that you have the strength and resources within you. But you don't have to do it on your own! The counselling process lends you a hand in finding the best way forward, for you. It's just like having a conversation, and it's entirely up to you what you want to share with me. So.. if you'll allow me the privilege of listening to your story, let's embark on this journey together!
